Small Fender Rumbles vs Small Peavey MAX

Which model of the Fender Rumbles? The black metal grill or the silver cloth one?

Personally, I find the 1x10 combos from most manufacturers to work great for home practice or Guitar and Bass rehearsal sessions. A lot of them are quite light and can come in as high as "100 watts" (take that with a grain of salt though).

I have the Ashdown and it's a pretty good combo, not a lot of coloration to it but the speaker is strong and the amp takes preamp pedals pretty well. All solid choices though, but I wouldn't let the wattage ratings scare you...they all come with volume knobs

In short, I'd go for the Hartke.

Very different class of product and quality IME.

I ended up getting the Hartke off of CL at a bargain of 125.00. It looks like right out of the box practically. Very clean. Got into it a little earlier and feeling my way, but digging it so far. Wil update more after this weekend.

I've got an Ampeg amp that is a bit much having to drag it up and downstairs every time I felt like playing with a bass, so I bought a Laney LX10B that I'm disappointed in as far as small practice-type amps go. I'm guessing it's mainly due to the small speaker size. I'm planning to trade it for either a Fender Rumble 15, a Peavey MAX 158 II, or Fender Rumble 25. Are experiences on buying one over the other?

I am Ampeg RB112 owner , but i recommend Rumble 40 , those bright and vintage button able create more sound than Ampeg RB110 .

If you want both Rumble and SVT tone ~~ get your self a Caline Wine Cellar for Rumble with Vintage button engage ( Shame the RB112 unable sound like Rumble or Bassman )

I run Wine Cellar through my Ampeg RB112 stack for more SVT-ist sound. Joyo Tidal Wave also a nice Ampeg voicing preamp pedal .

A inherently flawed video. The mic has a big boost in the response at 4Khz and below about 200 Hz so the midrange character of each speaker is somewhat misrepresented.

And the mic is close to the speaker so port output, which is a big part of the sound is likely under-captured.

And any generalizations about speaker size are not supported with a sample size of one each. It all depends on the design and construction of the speaker driver and the box in which it lives.

It is a great video if you want to know what these amps would sound like with that mic, but forming any conclusions beyond that is pretty pointless.

Listen using good headphones or earbuds. The tones exactly reflect my experience.

They don't have a Rumble 40. However, the 10" driver in the 40 sounds very close to the 10's in the 500, so listen to the sound of the 500 in the video to get an idea of the sound from the 40. I own both (the 40 and 500) and can verify that they're tonally similar.

I previously owned a Rumble LT25 but sold it, as (in my opinion) the 8" speaker lacked low bass and sounded more like a guitar amp. That can be heard in the video. The 15 (in my opinion) is even thinner and tinny, which also can be heard in the video.

Re: Ampeg RB110 vs. Rumble 40, I've had both and played them side by side.. I found them both far better tonally than the R25. But the Ampeg has the Ampeg sound and the Rumble has the Fender sound, which are quite different from each another.

TL;DR - single 8" speakers (IMO) lack bass and made practice less fun for me. Single 10's are where the warm, deep lows (that are nice for practice) start.

Sometime, Single 12' driver still not enough deep tight tone for me. ( human never feel enough actually ) Therefore, my solution for bigger sound .....
