I'm looking for suggestions on some small monitors. My group plays a lot of smaller venues - pubs, bars, restaurants. Sometimes our PA speakers have to be positioned so that I can't hear the vocals well. So I need something small, and it doesn't have to make my ears bleed. We only run vocals thru the PA. Thanks in advance.

Yes, Galaxy Hotspots. I own 4 of them and when my band does small gigs like boat cruises we use them. Heck on a regular gig I put one on top of my bass amp and use a smal amp with the lows rolled off for a sort of biamp effect just for my immediate area.

They are very good for maybe 125 htz and up.

Each speaker is 16 ohms so two of them is an 8 ohm load and 4 will drop in at 4 ohms total. Mike stand mountable, and one version has a built in volume control.

I never liked the powered version. To loud for 1 speaker and the feedback was uncontrollable, I blew out 2 in a row.

I power all four with a small stewart 200 watt half space power amp. Most gigs I don't even need a graphic that is how good they are.

hot spots are cool. i really haven't used them as much as i'd like to.

anyhow, at the risk of sounding like a jerk, i would go ahead and get some hot spots but i'd suggest getting used to not being able to hear everything as well as you'd like to. It took me several years to develop this skill but now i can pretty much play in any situation no matter how crappy the stage mix is and still lock in. sometimes you're doing everything by sight, going over the form of the song in your head, etc., but in the end it's worth it to be able to do that.

having said that, if you can swing it, get some hot spots, and while you're at it could you send some my way?:D

Not exactly the best quality, but I carry a Fender 1270P with me to most gigs. You can find them occasionally on ebay, used in good shape, for about 90$ (1270 is unpowered, they go for around that new, you are looking for the 1270P (powered))
