I'm aware I will most likely have to start getting bass strings online (As well as the ones I like for my 12 string guitar), but I would prefer to get it all at brick & mortar stores--there's something about the experience I love, and I don't want them to go away.I can't remember the last time I bought a set of strings at a brick and mortar store. Then again, I think I may have purchased 4 sets of strings in the past 5 years. Last time I wanted strings right away I went to banjo mart and asked for flatwounds. The "salesman" asked me, "why would you want those? Nobody plays those." Turns out I didn't buy anything. Hmmm...
Bassstringsonline is one of a few good resources for strings.
As to the question about action, and to echo an answer, with a good setup you can get low action. You will most likely not have a good setup on a mikro right out if the box, so factor in the cost of a setup (including the nut and probably a fret dressing), it will be well worth it. As long as the neck is sturdy it will work with a good tech working on it.
