Smaller Preamp

We've been playing some smaller gigs lately with a small PA & no soundman. My normal setup is a BERGACROWDEM-Demeter HBP1-Crown Microtech-Berg HT112. Some of these small gigs are either too far to travel or they have a long way to the stage from load in. My Crown is in a 2 sp. rack case & the Dem & Rack Rider are in a 4 sp. case. Tonight i ran my bass into the Crown to the HT112 with no pre & it sounded great, but I'm worried i might need some mid control for live use. I'm looking at a PodXT or a Tech21 Paradriver. Which would be better for a small pre to throw in my gearbag ? This would eliminate carrying the 4 space rackcase for these smaller jobs.Don't get me wrong, I love my Demeter Pre & I'm not going to give up my Crown lead sled.
