Smoked a Hookah for the first time last night.

Isn't 1hour smoking a hooka equal like 2 packs of cigarettes or something?

I'm not sure. There is about five times as much smoke in one good drag of a shisha than a cigarette. I think the difference is shisha tobacco isn't packed with chemicals and what not, usually just sugars, honey, flavouring, whatever. I've heard in good quality tobacco the honey is actually the preservative, dunno how that is supposed to work.

I'm really not sure what would be worse, what the shisha lacks in chemicals, it makes up with volume.
Either way it can't be good for you, I just like to have one as a treat.

I love hookah, cigars, pipes, etc...

Cigarettes not so much. Hookah is really a pleasant experience, although an unhealthy one. The smoke is not harsh and it's cool enough that you won't cough after taking a moderate "hit".

Relaxing, but you have to be constantly smoking it as the buzz wears in minutes.

I own one. A big and fancy one. I don't smoke much because of the health risks, it is more of an ornament in the household. Though sometimes we do bring it down and have a smoke or two. It is nice and refreshing if you get good quality tobacco, but some brands make you feel tight chested and gross after an hour being in the room with it.

We have a few flavours, Double Apple (my personal favourite), Lemon (my least favourite) and Mint, which I am yet to try.

I've been to Arabia (Oman and two of the UAE), there are lots of shisha bars around, especially in Oman. Nothing like having a nice mixed grill and then going back to a shisha bar to relax. :)

There are loads of names for them, Wikipedia lists a lot if you're interested, but yes, in the majority of the Middle East and Arabia it is called a shisha. :)

I lived in the Gulf for three years. Went to a local coffee shop every couple of weeks with a close Persian friend of mine and his cousin. It cost peanuts for a smoke and some tea.

People seem to be forgetting about the nicotine, tar, and combustion byproducts here.

yes, but I do believe that shesha/hookah tobacco is , as stated quite a few times, much cleaner than the usual tobacco that gets infused with all sorts of extras here in North America... and most other places for that matter.

not gonna be as healthy as breathing fresh air, but then again when I was in Cairo the shesha wasn't all that much worse than the aire we were breathing in certain parts of the city :(

So, ya I am not really a smoker, but my friend had bought a hookah, and had some strawberry tobacco he wanted me to try. I figured what the heck.

So just wanted to say it was awesome. Great feeling too.

And YES it was tobacco, I am not into drugs or anything like that.

Just wanted to share.

Feel free to discuss any of your experiances.

Aw the Hookah! Takes me back to a warm night while playing for our troops in UAE in April 04. Some really cool Airmen (and woman) were smoking a Hookah and after the show we all sat around and had some drinks and smoked the Hookah. Awesome experience shared with some great people. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did. :D Thank God for music and our military. Those memories of that tour will be forever in my top 10.
