Smoked a Hookah for the first time last night.

I've always seen the hookah as a sort of 'gateway drug.' People will sit around smoking hookah for a while, chatting, laughing and having a good time... legally. Then they realize one day that there are other tobacco alternatives that you can also smoke out of a 'water pipe' :)

Kind of like how crosswalks are a 'gateway drug.' People walk across the streets when they feel like it... legally. Then they realize that, as long as a car isn't on the horizon, they can cross the streets wherever they like. Filthy Jaywalkers. It just makes me sick to think about how many nice, upstanding youngsters have been corrupted by those no-good crosswalks. :ninja:

I own one. A big and fancy one. I don't smoke much because of the health risks, it is more of an ornament in the household. Though sometimes we do bring it down and have a smoke or two. It is nice and refreshing if you get good quality tobacco, but some brands make you feel tight chested and gross after an hour being in the room with it.

We have a few flavours, Double Apple (my personal favourite), Lemon (my least favourite) and Mint, which I am yet to try.

I've been to Arabia (Oman and two of the UAE), there are lots of shisha bars around, especially in Oman. Nothing like having a nice mixed grill and then going back to a shisha bar to relax. :)

In the Middle East, it's called sheeshah or hubbly-bubbly.

There are loads of names for them, Wikipedia lists a lot if you're interested, but yes, in the majority of the Middle East and Arabia it is called a shisha. :)

LMAO

I enjoy the occasional hookah. Yes, it isn't good for you if you do it chronically (just like alcohol, gambling, and soda pop). Treat as what it should be: A treat, and you should be fine.

There is a hookah bar in in Ames, where a lot of my friends go to school, and a bunch of us went to it about a year and a half ago. It was pretty cool. The smoke was super smooth and pleasent, but you can definitely get lightheaded if you inhale it too hard. I wouldn't mind doing it again, but it's not something that I want to make a habit of.

I always thought it was fine (I never did it, but just through friends) until my room mate came home after trying it. He instantly got dizzy, walked back to our place and threw up continuously for about an hour. He slept, woke up and threw up again.

I don't think I'm gonna try Hookah. ahaha
