sneak peek @ $100,000 Ritter Roya......

Ive only owned and played 1 Alembic and that was a Spoiler. So my comparison may not be very fair but, I loved the feel of the bass but the sound was a little to thin for me and thumping didnt have any umph. The Ritter however has a much thicker sound for thumping and fingering. The "B" string is crisp and flawless and the overall look and quality IMO is 2nd to none.

I see. Spoilers are nice, but not exactly a series Alembic. I do want to someday play a Ritter, they look very...interesting, especially that raptor and seal. The thing that gets me is, they're just like normal Ritters but with diamonds and gold on them. I guess to each his own. They sure look nice. BTW how much do regular Ritters cost?

Normal retail price starts @ around $5000. Thats with (in my estimation) about a $1000 to $2000 mark up so the longer its been in the store the more chance you have of cuttin into that markup price and actually gettin closer to what the dealer actually payed. This one has my eye @ the moment. $5300

If he can sell a few good luck to him. Im not interested in having diamonds on my bass, unless i could sell it and buy various Sadowsky's, Fenders, Overwater's and Wal's.... For me i want to concentrate on the music, not how flash my bass looks!:smug:

The word 'ostentatious' springs to mind. Each to there own.:bassist:

You know, for the average going price of a fairly good Picasso, someone could buy 1,000 of my paintings. Yet they still go and buy the Picasso. That must just be stupidity on their part.

That or they just want the Picasso more :eyebrow:

So much bashing!

The man's a luthier, you think what, hes gonna make 2000 USD basses all his life for you peeps??? Are you kidding me?? If he's got the dough to make such basses, thats awesome for him! This is what his job's all about, and I dont doubt for a second he LOVED working on this bass, if you're not happy dont buy it, period.

A big plus 1 on the black Concept Roya.

While I like the gold and diamond $100,000 bass as a masterwork of ornamentation (and ostentation); it strikes me more as a work of jewlery than of bassbuilding. It speaks more to Ritter's amazing craftsmanship than his artistry. (Then again, maybe it is art to make a gold and diamond bass seem somewhat tastefully restrained.)

The black Concept Roya, however, is pure design genius.
I have no reservations saying that bass is ART - original and beautiful.

Jens dropped by my shop 2 or 3 weeks ago unannounced which blew me away. (I only see him once a year at NAMM) What was he doing here in the SF Bay Area of Northern CA? He was at Bass Player Mag. doing a photo shoot for this bass. Since we are about 35 minutes south of them he drove down in his rental car.

Jens brought this amazing bass into our shop & yes it was in a hard shell case at the time. He allowed me to hold it & take photos, but only on the condition that I can't show them until the NAMM show because of the 2 magazine articles. (I’m surprised to see all these photos here)

I’m not sure if it was mentioned, but the bridge & knobs are solid gold. The frets are a material that he said was harder than stainless steel, but I can’t remember the name.

This is simply a work of art for a serious collector & is not to be confused with a bass to be played out on gigs. Is it beautiful? In person it’s incredible! Is it practical? Heck no it’s for a collector; it’s not suppose to be practical.

BTW: Jens went above the call of duty & was kind enough to drive over to my house & help me adjust the action on my Ritter 6 string fretless. How cool is that? Great guy, great basses!

I think, quite honestly what makes the Ritters stand out more than anything are the finishes. Ill give him his props for that, They are very pretty. Id have to play one to believe all the other hype, but who wouldnt? Building my own basses for the last few years I find that most the over the shelf stuff leaves alot to be desired. I also know what it costs to build most of these high dollar boutique basses. Let me put it this way, cost of build verses sales price.....These luthiers are getting paid! AND aint nothing wrong with that!!
