sneak peek @ $100,000 Ritter Roya......

Have you seen the gigbag Jen's makes? ;)

Totally custom fitted to each specific instrument - Made from Argentinean Suede

How many Argentinians does he have to skin for each one? ;)

I'd still sound just as crappy playing a $100k bass as I do playing a $500 one. The only way it would be worth anything close to that much to me was if it also came with the soul of Jamerson using my body as its new host.

ITs still a gigbag, It doesnt matter if it was made with the hair from Christ himself, you drop it and your screwed. Argentinean Suede? How gaudy can you get? I guess the cows they got over there are better than ours. Im starting to think that some of you can be convinced to buy a turd with the right marketing. :rollno: I dunno maybe Ill throw some diamonds and gold in a turd and wrap it up in Argentinean Suede and go into buisness for myself.....

It's still a gigbag yes. If you drop it your screwed? Ok....why would you drop a gigbag? When was the last time you dropped a hard case for that matter? I never have.

A case or gigbag is something you carry a bass in. It's not an excuse to be careless. A padded leather gigbag can offer quite a bit of protection anyways, while being much easier to carry, and looking stylish at the same time.

Argentinean Suede....I wasn't trying to imply that it was better than american suede or anything like that. It's just a fact. Those gigbags are made with nice materials and they are well designed. To me, they look better than most other gigbags I've seen. And you think that looks 'gaudy'?

Exceptionally crafted, handmade goods don't come cheap. I don't see what the problem is.

+1

stop hating, its a nice bag, and i bet it is gonna be a lot more padded than your average gigbag, and it looks damn good.

and if you just spent like 8k on a bass a few hundred for a real nice handmade fitted bag is a real good investment if it will keep your bass safe, be comfortable to carry and look good, so whats the problem with some of you guys/

To each his own, Yeah in my opinion its gaudy and less functional than a hardcase. You play and gig long enough you'll drop a instrument or have someone else knock it over or drop it. Or something happen during transit to a show. We call these accidents, not being careless and when it happens to you and your prize possession gets harmed maybe youll think twice about your case either being protective or stylish.....:rollno: My point is if your going to spend $8000 dollars on a bass at least put it in a case.

On the subject of 180, I couldn't help but raise a chuckle at his eBay feedback: "The man has obvious problems, so I'll be kind here and just leave a neutral!!!!!"

Anyway, back to the Ritters. Am I the only one who thinks that the sky has turned green, and Jens might actually be taking some design ideas from Wish?:D

It's not that a gigbag is better than an HSC, they just have different applications. Still, a nice padded gigbag offers protection too.

Hard cases are perfect for taking to gigs, or in any situation where you'll have to leave the bass somewhere where something might happen to it. A gigbag on the other hand is perfect for just going back and forth between school, rehearsals, or just going somewhere to jam.

Generally, whenever I go anywhere with my (nice) bass, it either stays physically on my person or it's kept in a safe location. Like the corner of a practice room or something like that. In those situations a gigbag is fine for me. Even if it fell over, I don't think it would be any more of a problem in a padded gigbag than it would be in a hard case.

As far as gigging (again, with a nice bass), I would never leave a bass unattended just sitting in a stand. And I would never allow anyone else to carry one of my instruments.

Thats cool for you man, I respect that :D . Im just saying if it were me an Instrument of that caliber wouldnt go nowhere without it being in a hardcase. Murphys law man, weirder stuff has happened.

Hey Lamarquis, do you change your avatar every day or something?

YUP....haha

Now let me add this about the guitarcases vs gigbags.......I for one hate hard shell cases. They dont fit into my vehicle as easily. Cant take them on an airplane. And you cant strap em over your shoulder. But I have come to appreciate them since (some) of the airlines have instituted the travel restrictions on their flights. Now I Fed x my basses in the hard cases I NEVER used but awfully glad I held onto. Cant beat em for storage either. Also, Jens gig bags are VERY nice and not gaudy @ all IMHO. Those who think so have never owned one of his instruments. Id NEVER put my Ritter in guitar center gigbag. In other words you GET what you pay for.....and you DONT get what you dont pay for

wow, that is amazingly insane

edit: I came up with an idea a few weeks ago and haven't been able to get it out of my head yet, I want to make a bass nut out of dinosaur bone.

I had a Custom Turner Bass back in '95 that had a nut made from an ancient piece of Mastodon bone. These days I'm just as happy with plain old Cow bone, LoL.

Honestly that is probably one of the most f@$king stupid things i've ever heard on a forum. If your bass drops in a gig bag chances are something is going to happen unless your in a heavily padded room. And a suede gig bag, come on a gig bag is for going outside and going place to place, ever thought what will happen when it rains while your waiting for the bus or walking to your car. Gig bags are usually light transportation for when you have a long trip and don't want the weight of a hardshell. Also if you did have a 8000$ bass you'd have to be pretty dam stupid to use anything but a hardshell because if there is always a risk of something happening with a gig bag.

The most stupid things I've seen on a forum recently is your post.

I've used gigbags for gigs exclusively for about 18 years now with nary an incident. Never even had any close calls. If I were going to be travelling with a band in a van full of gear, sure--I'd use a hardcase. But, in a situation where I carry my bass from my apartment to my car and from my car into a gig, it's gigbag all the time. And, that included when I was taking my old Sadowsky or my US Curbows.

To suggest that you've got it all figured out and anything else is "f@$king stupid" shows a lack of intelligence, or a lack of maturity. Or, judging from your post, possibly both.

Well that's a good way to start a conversation...

I'm not doing any tests, but here's my logic:

If you have a nice, padded leather gigbag, and it falls over. The padding of the bag will absorb a good portion of the shock.

If a hard-case falls over, its going to hit the ground with a harder initial impact (due to the hard exterior), and the interior of the case will absorb the shock, with your bass pressing against whatever the case is lined with.

Hard-cases are heavier too, so they're going to hit the ground with more force.

I'm not saying that if your bass falls, a gigbag will protect it better than a gigbag, and I don't really know. But I would guess that either one would protect it about the same.

I'm currently anxiously awaiting two custom leather gigbags and I plan to carry my $3,000 basses in them almost exclusively. In case you didn't know, leather is waterproof ;)

I had my semi-hard shell case in some heavy rain for a while just last week (Seattle  ), and it deformed/softened some of the foam around the exterior :hmm:

Of course, if you're going to be throwing your bass into the back of a truck with a bunch of other gear, or checking it onto an airplane...etc. Any situation where there is obvious risk of other objects ramming into it, then yeah. By all means, get a nice flight case. But for day to day use, I'll stick to slinging a nice gigbag over my shoulder.

Here's a basic outline of my day:

Leave house with bass in gigbag
Get on the bus (usually in the hard-case my bass gets the inner seat next to me all to itself, but in a gigbag I could probably keep it in front of me)
Arrive at school (going to Cornish, studying music)
Put my bass in "the Bass closet". A locked room with individual cubby slots for each bass.
Go to classes
Get my bass for Ensemble/rehearsals...etc.
Play for a while...
When that's done, bass goes right back into the gigbag and then right back into the bass closet.
More classes...
Go home with the bass, on the bus again.

Sounds pretty risky, eh? Why do I need a Hard Shell Case again?
