sneak peek @ $100,000 Ritter Roya......

How exactly is that unacceptable?
Do you like flat top uncrowned fret work? That's the sign of bad work to me, leveled and not recrowned. It's bad for intonation and makes vibrato more chunky since it drags more. I'm also a bit surprised they needed to be leveled that much. Whatever he's doing it's not what I'm used to.

Look at your Ken Lawrence, unless they're worn I'd bet they are perfectly crowned.

I'm glad I didn't mention the unfilled gaps on the inlays ;)

Honestly, I've never tried it. But it's another way of doing it, and Jens does it with all his basses (as I understand it anyways), so I'm sure some of the Ritter owners on this board could chime in and tell you more about it. I'm sure it's not what you're used to, but that doesn't automatically make it bad work. I'm pretty positive Jens knows exactly what he's doing.

My Ken Lawrence was refretted by Mike Lull shortly after I got it. So ask him about it. I have yet to develop a specific knowledge/taste of different fret styles...

My only hope is that I meet this "Sultan" and put some ownage on his a$$ playing, my 800.00 Ibanez:bassist: The bass is nice but other than the diamonds and gold its just like most other Ritters. Yah, and he doesnt even crown his frets?? Pleck system?? The frets have flat tops from leveling, fretwire doesnt come like that new......God, I don't even want to go there..

So many comments, too little care:

1. I hear that if you throw it into the pit of fire at Mount Doom, Sauron will be vanquished.

2. If anything in life is fair, Jamerson will come back from the grave and wipe chicken grease all over that thing before pawning it.

3. I recently read a review of it on TalkBass.com from someone who tried it at Guitar Center:
a) Apparently the sales guy couldn't figure out how to get power to the amp (which was a Hartke kickback combo)
or..
b) the strings were dead and you couldn't get the "Justin Chancellor" tone out of it.
now, THAT's funny. :D

my ritter sound better than any bass I have ever played not even plugged in!
its like a grand piano , and the frets are fine, just fine and I own many other basses to compare it to
and yes even a $300 ibanez

jens basses have taken the leap from meerly instrument to world reknown artist and the subject matter happens to be a bass guitar!

I couldnt be happier for him to see his succes as an artist and secondly an unbelieveble bass maker!

to poo poo the price is pure minutia.
if you can afford it why bitch?
if you cant afford it why bitch?

I say life in general.
why bitch about something you dont have and breaks.
NOT
something you wish you had deep down but could never afford so you redirect your inward sadness and loathing into outward negative rhetoric

but what do I know?

His fretwork may not be "normal" (to the standards of other basses) but his ridiculously low action, killer playability, and perfect intonation (IME) isn't "normal" either.

Whatever he does, it works.

His basses are pretty spectacular; not my aesthetic style, and most certainly not in my budget, but that doesn't hinder me from being able to appreciate the artistry of his work and quality of detail and design that his basses show.

Believe me if you're interested in one of the Royals. He'll call you!!! It says so on the site.

Considering that there is a Behringer bass head in one of the photos Mr Decibel posted in another thread, I'm calling "bull****."

I think the schoolkids are out for Thanksgiving and playing "grownup" on the internet.

This is the same kid who signed up under the name Name Changed and BassPwnage420. Look at his profile. Same punk kid.

Well, not to be a curmudgen, but why shouldn't someone express a negative opinion if that's how they feel about it?

If this is truly art, then don't people have the right to be art critics? Or do I also have to compliment the guy who put a crucifix in a jar of urine because it was "art"?

I, personally, really like some of the work Jens does, but this one doesn't do much for me. It's basically stuff he's done before, just made from gold and with a couple of stones set in it.

I mean, look at Invalid Link Removed, and tell me that he's really done something special with this bass. The white one with the drawings all over it is a much more classy, artistic piece.

As far as gaudy and over the top, this is certainly well done for a bass. But it's nothing, imo, compared to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] in scope, detail, or beauty. The knock-off production models of that guitar sell for $100,000.

But, if this thing floats your boat, good on ya.

Tough luck, because you are incorrect.
If you are talking about the pics of my prettier cabs in a thread a while back then I know what you are talking about. That behringer head is mine and yes it is crap and no it is not my only head by a long shot. Just because something is in a pic does not mean that you should come to a conclusion.

Secondly, I believe in that picture that by the corner of the photo you can clearly see that 1780 French table. Guess what material is all over that? The same thing on the my soon to arrive bass. Guess how much I could sell that table for right now? Well over the $100,000 for the bass. So if you want to come to conclusions based on those pics then I suggest you look at the other "artifacts" in that room.

I wired the money to his account last night at approximately 7:45 eastern. In about 5 days he said he will arrive to my local airport and I will go pick him and my bass up. Then there will be a thread of pics. Just be patient.

The funny thing is that the maker will tell you " It has that wonderful Jazz bass sound" This really opens up a can of worms on bass prices. Can someone, bass player or not, tell if your bass is a Fodera, Sadowski, MTD, Whatever, vs a Yamaha, Fender, or Ibanez from listening live or on tape?

Actually its fine to express that opinion. But then again, don't expect anybody really to care about your opinion.

That is the way I feel about all the nay sayers here, you can't and never will be able to own that thing, who really cares about what you think?

Sounds harsh, but I fully accept my position as a guy who will never have the funds for something like that. I can totally appreciae it for the artwork that it is, and not have 2 make comments about 'i bet he is not even going to play that' or worse.

180 if you did pick that up, congrats!!! I may just write the CEO of SAS and tell him to pick one of them up :smug: We have some very random artwork laying around.

I was guessing, mabeye now he can get around to posting those pics he forgot to put up earlier:D

If you follow the url path of the pictures of the Earcandy cabs, you'll see it leads to the same free directory that hosts the pics of the FBB four-string that Name Changed, a 15-year-old, won in an eBay auction a while ago.
