I seriously dont get what's up with the mammoth ivory..... hmmm next thing you know ritter would be marketing guitar straps made of leather from jesus's sandals? and pickups with threads wound from the table cloth at the last supper....

Mammoth ivory isn't really that uncommon for this use. When I had the nut redone on my Sterling I had this option. Unfortunately it wasn't white enough to look correct, so I just went with bone. It is generally chosen due to the fact that it is legal ivory, which at one time was really a favored material for this. It also (for scrap the size of a nut) isn't outrageously expensive.

Considering how long they have been extinct that is no surprise. Nope, won't affect it. They dig these things up all the time in areas of permafrost in regions where they lived. Do some research it is pretty interesting.

Then they've been pleked flat, but they aren't crowned. It would be unacceptable on a $2k bass I don't see why it should be on a $100k one.

I sure hope this isn't real - the excess of this bass is disheartening. I am all for people buying instruments and art, etc, but you could really do some good with 100K. IMO only.

I kinda agree. From a purely artistic perspective, I'd be a lot more impressed if he made something beautiful out of old rotted-out wood and cigarette packs.

I'm not trying to belittle the man's talent, which he obviously has in spades, I'm just kinda underwhelmed by this particular piece.
