Well, I'm guessing that he made this for the sake of his craft. Sure, musical instruments are meant to be played, but as a luthier, I'm sure he is trying to push the limits of what he can do. I completely understand why he would want to take on such an ambitious project. The same as we challenge ourselves as bassists, he's challenging himself as a luthier. Love it or hate it, I think it's pretty cool. Obviously, noone is going to take it to a dive bar, but that's not the intended purpuse.

Hey,,, if anyone DOES bag on this gorgeous creation, they should be thrown out the window. That instrument simply stunning.

He made it for the Robb Report magazine..... Have you seen that magazine? I'm guessing they comissioned it based on their quest for ultimate extravagance

I think its great that Jens can even make something so over the top and still have it look beautiful, and somewhat tasteful ;) and retain it's functionality.

Whether or not anyone would spend 100 grand on it seems to be a little bit besides the point.

Floral Pattern Fingerboard Inlay made of massive 24Carat Gold
Every single Inlay-Leaf is decorated with a Black Diamond (set in Platinum)

2 flawles Brillant-Cut Diamonds (3,3ct) are placed on top of the 2 Knobs

The only thing that can top owning the Ritter Bling Bass is gigging the Ritter Bling Bass. I am hoping that the buyer (and I have no doubt that it is either already sold or it will quickly find a willing buyer) will play it.

Just to name two who could afford it and could afford to play it:
Gene Simmons and Prince.

That would be the best joke in life of bass and the only time I would say: "That's total pwnage." And I wouldn't mind it this time that an instrument is smashed.

Apart from that, it's the FIRST bass like that which I like.. :help:

I seriously dont get what's up with the mammoth ivory..... hmmm next thing you know ritter would be marketing guitar straps made of leather from jesus's sandals? and pickups with threads wound from the table cloth at the last supper....
