yeah, I can't remember if it was NAMM Summer '05 (in Indy) or Last Anaheim NAMM, I remember hearing Jens talk about building a bass for the Sultan... interesting to actually see that bass materialize.beav2k2 said:

STUNNING BASS....however isn't it like that Vertu phone that has no features except that it is covered in gold in platnium....you know the kind...it should have a built in effects processor if it were to be to be worth $100k..

Actually, compared to some inlays I have seen, that is quite tasteful. I'm thinking PRS dragons here.
I think it's fantastic. I mean I have 3 basses and 1 being built with highly figured wood that adds more to the price than the functionality. I think alot of us opt for visually stunning basses. 30 years ago we could have ripped every Alembic apart for being over the top. This is just the natural progression of the over the top theme.
If this guy wanted a couple thousand sub standard basses I am sure he would have done that. As for me, I do not understand buying tons of basses that do not sound or play as well as mine. What good does that do me? I am sorry an SX does not play like a Ritter. 10000 SX basses don't either.

Let me close by saying this:
If theres a buyer (or a market) for a piece like this I say GO FOR IT JENS!!!!! Which one of us would dare to say they wouldnt sell a instrument they hand built for $100,000 if someone offered to pay it??? I'd build it and sell it in a heart beat. Now I know there are those of us who are hardcore, practical, "gimme a working mans bass anyday" kinda people and thats cool. But hey, here is an instrument that I feel elevates all of us and what we do. Appreciate it for what it is and dont be so quick to criticize it for what it aint. There are off-road racers that own Rolls Royce Phantoms which cost upwards of $400,000. Why? Because they have an appreciation for a good automobile. Now will it serve their purpose for what they make a living at? No. But will it bring them joy to own and drive it? Yes. Will it appreciate overtime if its kept behind a case and never driven. But of course. Same thing with this one of a kind instrument. This bass will be featured in The Robb Report. One the most prestigous magazines on any news stand. If no one else gives a dam about someone bringing attention to the instrument WE play I do. More power to ya Jens!!!! Make Some more

I wonder if I could put up a mortgage and get jens to make me a 100,000 dollar bass like this?

Doing what you are proposing does nothing to promote Ritter as the premier bass brand, which is clearly the intent IMO. The only way to accomplish both goals is to give the proceeds of the sale away, however when you are a unknown company like Ritter is to 99.9999% of the population, starting your name recognition campaign in such a way diminishes the goal by watering down the true objective.
