It would've been much more interesting is "Teh Hammer" did something more musical & clean. Honestly some of the stuff in the Bill Dickens video posted earlier sounds just as random but at least it's super clean, articulate, and decipherable. Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about Jazz so I probably just don't get it. Don't be offended.

I'm new here so I don't want to be rude , but I think actual notes should matter ! Maybe something like this! Look up fastest bass player Joseph Soares might be a different take on what fast means!

Fast is nice if it serves a purpose in the song. Being the 'fast' bass player when it is not needed just makes you look stupid. And in the end it's more difficult playing slow and making every note count than doing the lighting speed riffs or those triplet slaps. Those fast riffs are mainly muscle memory, not musical skill.

If your happy playing slow or fast or whatever,it's up to you. But with that type of thinking people like paganni, al de Meloa ,eddie van Halen ,Jaco, Billy Sheehan and so many more would not exist! And not one of them have looked stupid doing it. They have all pushed the limits of playing and music ! You may call it muscle memory but in reality its Passion ! We just disagree but that's ok !

I did not mean to step on toes, though I have a tendency to do that :) What I meant was that 'speed' does not equal to 'skill' and 'understanding' of music nor does speed makes you a better bass player persé. Basically anyone can play fast riffs if they train their muscles to those riffs. A Jaco or any other bass icon is not special just because of their speed, but the fact that they surpass any other 'high talented' player in every way and because of their uniqueness (the total picture).

No problem brother , toes still intact!! All that I'm trying to say is that playing and music should have no limits! and crap like some of the posts I've seen here putting people down , just puts up walls and no one learns! Constructive criticism not destructive commentary would be more in order! Especially in this crazy world we live in right now!!
