I'd get the Multicomp before the sans amp based on the gear you have. I doubt a Markbass Preamp and Berg 610 sound bad with a stingray going into them

Don't change your gear when it already sounds great. I don't like the SansAmp products at all, they color the sound of the bass too much.
If you're happy with your tone and it works with your band then stick with it. Also, NEVER take advice from a drummer!
I *like* what my SansAmp does to my sound.
I *love* the fact that it has a DI function. That's invaluable.
I've been tempted to buy a VT Bass, based on it's rep around here, but I am unwilling to give up the built-in DI.

it would guess its pretty tough to get anything less than great tone with your current setup. but if your bandmates want you to have a sansamp.... tell them to take up a collection!![]()
In my experience, the drummer is the only guy who wants to talk to the bass player.
KO
I guess i'm lucky, cause both my guitarists talk to me about everything to do with our music... as well as the drummer.
Do you think if you bought one and had it in bypass mode the whole time they would still think it improved your tone?
Agreed w/Swami-too gritty{not remotely warm}. Way too much tone coloring.
I use the Sansamp vT bass with my Ampeg micro which is a bare bones mini set-up. It is great for coloring and distortion but with my big rigs I won't be using it...Just too much...but you never know. In your case you wont need it...![]()
i love my BDDI, but it's not something you add to your bass rig, it pretty much is your bass rig. iQUOTE]
I agree...the BDDI and VT pedal are preamps, and like someone said before...why play through 2 preamps at the same time?
However, in a lot of less expensive SS bass amps...combos in particular....the existing preamps are often decribed as weak, strerile or transparent. This is where the VT/BDDI really shine.
Thats not to say that they can't be useful in front of any amp...they can easily be just a clean boost or to add a little something and they will do that wonderfully. However, there are many pedals that will do this just as well, maybe better.
I can only speculate....but I would think a good EQ pedal might be more useful in front of a real SVT or Portaflex than a Sansamp.
And bypassed it still runs the mid scoop on the BDDI by the way, found that out during recording where I used it as a straight DI, which tamed the huge low mids that come out my ATK quite nicely actually. The bypass on the footpedal or rackmount versions is probably clean though.
