Kaspar, very well described! As you play pizz mostly, do you get fingerboard buzzing on your bass with Temperas?

Elmer, I get a bit, but I mostly kind of like it. It sort of has that Miroslav vibe from Now he Sings…. There was a buzz around the octave G that was strident but it has calmed down.

Any info on how the B string responds pizz? I'm very tempted to try the Tempera set at some point.

It sounds a lot better pizz than the Flexocor did.

Here are a couple of samples of the pizz sound of the Temperas. I had them on for a week and they are still "calming down". I am getting a new bridge without adjusters, the fingerboards needs dressing as well and although it's only been a week, I think the sound post needs some TLC to balance things out.

What percentage of pizz/arco did you specify for these strings? And anyone else?

I play jazz pizz mostly with arco solos and some classical. Practice a lot with the bow. If I was getting these I just thought 50/50 but not sure - it is branded as an acro string anyway so even at a higher pizz percentage it would bow well?

These are arco strings. The nice pizz is just a pleasant surprise.

To my knowledge, they only make the one set designed for orchestral playing (and a solo set). They work brilliantly as a jazz string on my bass., so that’s that.

But they are working on a „pizz“-set…but there‘s no real „time-plan“ for these strings… but I‘m also very surprised and approached by the pizz sound of my Temperas..

Yes, it’s going to be very interesting to see how the “pizz” string will perform, especially when the “arco” string already is so great. It might be the best orchestral string ever

The Temperas pizz a little like a better Spiro (much more natural and suffisticated though). I would call it the perfect hybrid solution but thats a question of taste. With the bow... unbeatable.
But I think the reason why they sell it as a "arco only" string is because Gerold has a very specific and progressive idea of a Jazz pizz sound. I love that too (have an AP set of his) but I think for many players the Temperas will be great.

I´ve had my Temperas on for a week now replacing EPW EA and Bel Canto DG. Great volume arco and especially pizzicato, great sustain, clear notes and great feel - low tension but not flobby. Nice gauge - D and G a bit thicker than EPW, E and A a bit thinner.
On my arco bass they sound quite bright and spiroish arco but with more sophisticated colour to the sound. They haven´t yet mellowed down and I still have difficulties to get a clear start of a note with open strings. Especially the A is scratchy. G is my favourite. It´s very easy from down to high thumb positions. I also get buzzes from fingerboard.
In a string orchestra rehearsal I felt I was lacking the bottom end and power on the E and A. Me and my 1919 Bohemian like EP weichs better on E and A. Maybe I leave the D and G Tempera on, wait for them to get darker and try to mix with Evahs.

I had a conversation with Jan-Ole and he asked me to give more time for the Temperas. After 5 weeks now on my arco bass (and a week on my jazz bass) I´m happy to say I´m glad I did!
I have a deep but still crystal clear arco sound now with no scratchiness. Pizz has been great all the time but also the buzzing went away! The tension and feel is great. Low tension but not flobby, big volume.
I´m excited It´s interesting to see the durability of these strings. They have been on and off the bass three times now and seem to take it well. They look very well made.

Here’s a little mainstream bass solo from an upcoming album with a danish singer. I really like the recorded sound of these strings. Two concerns: I’m hoping they don’t get much darker on my already dark bass, and it still has an annoying buzz ‘round the octave “G”.

Sounds good - clear but not metallic with a free slightly airy sound like gut but more direct perhaps. Sounds like they feel easy to play? Just fwiw…

Yeah, they have less thump and more sustain than gut, more warmth and less twang than steels. And they play like butter.
Jury’s still out on these, but I guess I’m giving them some time.

OK...70 days in my thoughts turn to ordering my set #2 as a back up set, or as my next set...if I get in line will it take 6 months to receive another set? Will new developments show up in 2022? My endorsement is that I don't know which arco string I would use if Temperas become unavailable...cross that bridge later...any advice?

I don´t know about the length of the queue but I´m going to order another set anyway. Jan Ole told they have an update coming soon which will take away the pizz buzzes some of us have been experiencing. This is just what I need on my jazz bass

These strings need to last like five years to be worth getting a second set…so I’d say wait on that purchase.

I'm hoping for 3 years anyway. That would equal the cost of new Corelli's every 6 months which are barely almost usable arco but suck harder than an industrial vacuum pizz

Well, I am also thinking about buying a backup set. But I already have 1solo and 1orchestra version, so it will be my third. Is that greedy?! Update sounds tempting though.
So far they only became better, but hard to speak about life time after a few months. Any of you guys have an older set?
