Double Bass So I don't know squat about Pickups...

So can anyone here enlighten me on the differences in pick ups, which ones are good/bad, all that jazz. I wanna spruce up my Peavy Grind 4 BXP with some badbutt electronics to have more tone control. The two main genres I jam on are Hardcore and Bachata, so I want something that can give me control to use my bass for both...

You may have a tough time finding pickups that would fit that particular bass. Installing new pickups on a Peavey might involve some routing, so be aware of that. As far as soapbar pickups go (so named because of their shape), Bartolini, Seymour Duncan, Lane Poor, and EMG are all excellent. The downside to changing pickups is that there's no way to "test-drive" them. You have to base your decision on testimonials or hearing them in someone else's bass.
