Hey all

After a few days without a computer due to it being infested and crashed by spyware, a good friend of my dad's came over today and fixed it.

I now use Mozilla at the recommendation of a few people on this board. But, how do I prevent spyware from being automatically downloaded?

Edit-Preferences-Navigator-Downloads- Check "Don't Download Anything."

This keeps anything from being automatically installed. You'll get a download prompt "Do you want to Download File: XXX Freaky-Deaky Porno Dialer.dll" or whatever it is that's trying to download, and you just hit "cancel" and it doesn't get on your hard drive.

Haven't had snoopy spyware in a looong time. Nor viruses, since most virus writers write it for Internet Explorer, not Netscape, and not Mozilla (an opensourced mod of Netscape).

Now you have tabbed browsing. You will understand it's power and utility in a couple days.

if u feel that mozilla is too slow, give firefox a try, its mozilla's browser minus all the other stuffs like mail, news...etc

Spyware, 90% of them simply doesn't infect non-IE browsers. So u are safe, I have't got any spyware/adware at all after I switched to firefox.

Tab-browsing, after you learned the power of it, you will also get the power of saving bookmarks in tabs. Say like there's 10 websites that you visit daily, u can open them in tabs, and bookmark them in one go. And when u launch the bookmark, all 10 of them will show up. :hyper:

Indeed. So they just target IE. I feel Stone Age and naked when I'm forced to use IE at other people's houses.

Mozilla or Opera, bar none (Mozilla being my preffered weapon of choice.)

mozilla and opera both rock!

mozilla is probably the best imo, but i do love the fact that in opera you can save all of your tabs when you exit and when you open O again itll reload each tab to the site they were at before you exited (such as a tab for talkbass, a tab for email, a tab for surfing, etc). very cool feature! (mozilla may have it too, i just dont know of it)

I love Mozilla! Only been 2 days without Internet Explorer, and Ad-Aware turned up ZERO spyware.
