So I made a mistake...

So, I was enjoying some Holliday spirit(s) late last night when I decided to experiment with the strings on one of my basses.
See, I have a late eighties MIJ 75ri jazz that has been sitting stringless for a couple weeks after having yanked the fender 9050's off it to put them on my P bass. Since it is almost an overwhelmingly bright bass I thought I'd try putting on a set of Labella 760fl's that I've been experimenting with lately. Seemed like a good plan. So I reached into my used string bags and grabbed what I thought where the Labella's. Finished stringing them up and started to tune them up. I thought things seemed a little odd because there was a few more wraps around the tuning pegs than I would normally use. But hey, I was sort of rushing and like I said, I'd had a few hot chocolate/Bailey's in my by then. First thing that happened was, as I was tuning the E string I heard a strange popping noise. I just figured the string was settling around the tuning peg, whatever. I continued to tune the individual strings up and I'm noticing that they are taking a bit extra to get them tuned up and by this point the strings are pretty high off the fretboard. Taking a closer look I realize that the popping sound was a chunk of the nut under the E string had busted off. That's when it became clear that I had actually grabbed a five string set of TI's that I had taken off of a five string stingray because the bass had fallen over and hit something and it had damaged the G string to where it was unplayable on a certain fret. I had taken them off and thew away the G string so for all intent and purposes the set looked like a four string set and for some reason I just thought they were the labella's. So anyway, now I have a four string jazz that's tuned BEAD. Never intended on that and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm thinking about just leaving it this way for a while and see how I get along with it. Not sure I want to relearn a ton of songs in a different position of the neck and all. Having said that it is interesting shifting things up higher on the neck though.
