I have been looking into getting a bass for some time now. Well last night I finally pulled the trigger after many months of doing research. I ordered a new Fender American Standard Jazz Bass . My question is how well do the American Jazz come when arrive. Let me explain a bit better. When I open the case that it comes in, how much tweaking do I have to do or will I be able to open the case, tune, and play. I know some of you might say that a begginer should go to a local music shop. The only problem is my local music shop is very shady. They are well known in town for being crooks. But thats another story. My bass is on its way with a fender rumble 60 amp (I am not gigging, this is just a hobby for me so a small practice amp was all that I needed) Thanks

All basses need a little bit of tweaking, to some degree or another. But the American Fenders are usually set up well enough that a simple tuning should get you up and playing pretty quick, especially if you're just starting out.

Once you get a bit more comfortable you might mess with the setup a bit, but for now you should be good ......

You'll probably have to adjust the truss rod, saddle height and tweak the intonation at some point. It'll be fine for starters, but you might want to experiment as you learn what you like. According to my repair guy, licensed Fender dealers are supposed to preform set up before selling the instrument. In my opinion and experience, they rarely do. I usually use that as a way to get some extra bucks off. i.e. This will cost me $75 to have it set up, so take that off the price too. I been pretty successful with that tactic. Luckily, you can find all the info you need on set up online. Let us know how it goes.
