I've just taken a second shot of morphine to deal with the pain. It's 3:45pm here in Bern, Switzerland and I'm recovering from serious cancer related surgery.

I'm goofing off on my iPad and I found this stunning accapella version on the American National Anthem. Is it not simply incredible, or is it the morphine?

Spent a couple weeks in Switzerland [Basel, Lucerne, Zurich, and a few others] this past April and just loved it.

I've been off work since Christmas. Major surgery in March, septicemia in May, chemo in July and August and now more surgery this week and again in November. To give you an idea of my luck this year, I bought and old Mazda Miata to make trips to doctor appointments fun. Three weeks after getting it, my neighbour backed into it. It's fixed now, but I think I am now qualified to pick up where Rodney Dangerfield left off. I get no respect.

I'm tellin' ya it's terrible. My psychiatrist said I was crazy. I said "I want a second opinion." He said "Okay, you're ugly too."

No. They are my initials. I always smile when I see them on the road. Great bikes. Looking forward to getting that part of my life back as well.

If there is any message to leave with any of you, it's that cancer has a high survival rate. I firmly believe it's the one thing we fear the most because we associate it with death. Since getting this diagnosis in February, I have learned so much about it and my cancer: pancreatic that has spread to my liver. I know that I will walk away from this. I have a very rare form of cancer and it is survivable. The process to get there is long and arduous, but worth it. Surgery, chemo, more chemo, surgery on liver this week, left side of liver removed in November, and the releasing of a radio active isotope in early January. Been a tough year, but lots of you have had a tough year. I'm still here, You're still here. Enjoy and live each day. And don't freak out about cancer until you know what it is and what they can do for it. Not the big game ending this of a few years ago.

Cancer sucks canal water.
