So impressed with this budget pedal

I can kinda speak to this. I did a comparison on my YouTube channel between a Darkglass head and the Zoom B1x Four Dark OD and found them to be very close. I haven't A/B'ed the Monomyth and the Double Thruster with either the Zoom or the Darkglass head, but comparing the pedals to the video I made, they all appear to be very similar. Which is to say, the Joyo pedals sound quite close to the Darkglass stuff they're copying. The Zoom also does great job emulating the B3k, and that emulation is one of my favorite distortions on the whole pedal.

On the Zoom? It's called the Dark OD. There's also the Dark Pre on the Zoom which emulates the B7k.

Joyo sent me one of those for review, and my initial impressions are that it's a really great pedal. Seems to be a very good clone of the Darkglass Alpha Omega. One thing I'm pretty bummed about is that the cab sim only effects the XLR out. It doesn't effect the line out nor the headphone out which sucks because it does sound good. It's just not as useful as it could be.

I been wondering is it possible to use the cab Sim if you used a cable that's XLR on one side and 1/4" jack on the other, if you wanted to use it in an iRig or old school amp, that lacks an XLR input?

Also, I love your channel. It's what sold me on my Zoom B1X4. You have a lot of great content

Yeah, if you're grabbing the output from the XLR, it'll have the cab sim no matter what the other end of the cable is.

Are you gonna upload a video featuring the Joyo Monomyth? If so, can you do some stuff with a pick? Sorta modern metally, with turned up high mids, mids, and treble? I find most guys just do a review with their fingers and play classic rock, and stuff, and don't really use it like a dark glass would be used. It would be a huge help to modern metal influenced bassists such as myself.

If not, it's okay, it's your channel and video and you have the freedom to do things however you want. I will have mine and eventually I'll be able to test it myself anyway. But it will help out a lot of budget bass players who seek that modern metal Adam nolly/loathe bass tone a lot of you did

Clearly this refers to me! I merely found it disingenuous to pretend this wasn’t a clone of a Darkglass pedal, when it clearly is. Almost identical controls, aesthetics, and features as a specific DG pedal (and from the demo certainly at least a similar tonal range but with added “gain boost” switch in place of the pre-clipping low-shape switch- though gutshot and tone comparisons between the two would of course be more illuminating), from a company best known for cloning analog devices. Maybe not quite as blatant as the DemonFX clones, but not much less so. Then to qualify this by repeating the whole tired “Darkglass tone” thing as if all the knobs and switches on four pretty distinct pedal lines all just lead you back to the same identical high-gain face-shredding outcome. As such, comments about DG pedals seem pretty relevant, no? At the very least it is clearly “inspired by” a Darkglass (as the video kindly puts it), so the comparisons are very relevant.

Where did I say it wasn't a clone? All I said is that it doesn't sound like a Darkglass pedal. I didn't say anything about Joyo's intentions, just about the results. I feel like I am uniquely qualified to comment on that part as someone who actually owns the pedal.

Also, nowhere did I describe Darkglass as "high gain face shredding." I find that Darkglass pedals have a particular spiky sound to their high end distortion. That doesn't mean you can't play them mildly. That's what blend and the drive knobs are for. I do find the sound most suited to modern metal though.

For the record, I use their Neural DSP sim on a ton of my recordings. And like I said, I quite like the Vintage Ultra. I don't hate Darkglass. There's just a particular tone to their distortion that this pedal does not have.

Thanks for the lecture and series of videos though. I guarantee you I waste more of my life watching YouTube demos than you do. (Not a brag. Just an unfortunate fact of my YouTube addiction.) Point being that I've seen demos of every Darkglass pedal. So none of that was a revelation to me. And like I said, I've also played almost all of them in person.

It’s clearly a clone of a DG pedal, and as a user of a DK M500v2 and a HyperLuminal I agree it ain’t just for metal - but I also really wish people would stop treating metal as if it’s a dirty word. Those guys know dirt, and Darkglass knows dirt, and one thing I can say about every Darkglass product is that each and everyone has a *ton* of range and tonal options.

I’m in a cover band that does danceable (arguably) rock and hard rock, including Bryan Adams, U2, Van Halen, Stone Temple Pilots, and Matchbox 20. We even do Tennessee Whisky. Not even close to metal.

it actually sounds good. i wish the distortion had a bit less of its fizzy decay but i doubt that you'd hear it in a mix. I had a DG AO ultra for a while and while it's similar, it's not exactly the same. the voice control goes from scooped (CCW) to mids boosted (CW).

This is my second unit with the same problem. In the drive section after few minutes playing I get peak signal , to reset it I need to power off it and this sound repites all the time but you need to play with the EQ to get that problem. check this video guys you will see wath I am talking about.
