So many choices...

(First post!)
Hey guys. I recently had my ESP EC-104 stolen, broken in half (no joke), thrown in a dumpster, and returned to me by the police. (I'd post proof but I haven't paid for the ability to post pictures.) So I have roughly in between $400 and $600 bucks to spend on a new bass. I don't thoroughly understand the properties behind the components to a bass, so I'm not sure what I need to look for...

I want a bass with a wide low end range (I'm more into the groove and rhythm of the bass). A bass well suited for Alt. Metal or Hardcore. Help me out guys?

(BTW I looked through the bass family portraits, amazing! All around!)

Welcome! You don't have to pay to post pictures here btw. Wide range on the low end you'll definitely want a 5 String. Check out the Ibanez SR505,or an SRX475. A lot of people will recommend Shecters too. A 5 string jazz bass would be a good choice as well. Or go for another ESP. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any bass in your price range. Best thing to do is go to a music store and check out as many as you can.

I have looked up the SRX models before, but I read reviews saying the B string is floppy. Is that not true?

I can't say for sure, I've only got the 4 string model. Almost everybody says a 5 string bass with a 34" inch scale has a floppy b string. If you're worried about that, check out someone like Traben or look back at ESP for a bass thats a 35" scale. Ibanez BTB's are also 35".

You also might want to check out Spector basses. Myself and it seems a large amount of people here like them for the kind of music you play.

$400-600 should be able to get you a nice Spector Legend 5. I play a Legend 6 and the B string is nice even tuned down.

Go and play everything you can get your hands on in your price range and get the one that feels best regardless of brand.
