I noticed a trend lately, a lot of people are selling their fodera basses, why is that? I never played a fodera but all i usually hear is praise for them. I myself bought a ken smith elite and i just don't ever see myself selling it because it is that good for me. Is it the economy?

Just people trying stuff out. I don't think it is that many more than usual. Some guys like to try things and then flip them. Others just have too many basses.
Regarding the Smith, if I had a buck for every time someone on TB buys a new bass and says, "this is a keeper", then it is up for sale a month or so later...well, I could buy another Fodera

Fodera is currently the "it" boutique brand, this trend should continue until they start making Asian Fodera's and it just isn't as cool to have one. I would imagine there are 5 Foderas out there for every 1 Fbasses or Carl Thompson.

You never know, it might be a domestic strategy. lol Seriously. Guy goes out and drops $9K on a Fodera. Wife gets pissed. So he puts it up for sale, says to his wife "Here Martha look I put it up for sale but no one can afford it in this economy". And he gets to keep the bass, while pretending to try to sell it.
As of Jan 2012, every instrument is "Brooklyn born."
I'm not part of the company (just a happy customer) but I'd be willing to be that we won't see an off-shore Fodera again.

I think it is because the new CV and VM Squiers are SOOOOO good, they are rendering Foderas obsolete.

Harleys, boats, sports cars, etc are the first to go..... A $6000-10000 bass would likely be right at the top of the toys to be sold list....
Maybe some of these people bought them on credit and now cannot afford to pay for it, so they must sell. Remember, the economy isn't much better than it was a year ago. I doubt it has to do with any "flaw" in the instrument construction. We all know Fodera makes one of the best basses in the world, even if some of us argue over if they are "worth" ten grand or not (I tend to think that it is YOUR money and YOUR choice - heck if I was wealthy, I would purchase one for fun!).
Yep. Foderas aren't the 'be all, end all' bass for a lot of people. I've played a few myself, and while they were absolutely fantastic basses they definitely weren't for me.
