.I've often wondered that myself. How much better does a bass get after $1k, $2k, $5k..... and I don't mean vintage, those were basses that sold for the normal retail price and were often made with off the shelf or cheap available materials.
I don't think that's an accurate metaphor.the porsche will go faster and handle better at high speeds. Most people are likely to say it looks cooler too. Porsche is a high performance car. Vw isn't The original post is unrelated to those factors.This.
How much better is a $125,000 Porsche than a $22,000 VW? How much better is a $5.8 MILLION dollar Bugatti than the Porsche?
It would get you a beautifully crafted, excellent sounding bass which someone will plot to steal out of your vehicle or in the backstage area when loading. When you see that first scratch (excuse me, the beginning of the patina), you will wonder whether it just depreciated by about as much as a brand new, really nice bass. The other day, I took my Steinberger Spirit 5 string, which I bought used for $350, to a gig and it sounded fine, not with the tonal range of the Jazz V or G&L 2500, but it was half as heavy and fun to play. I will continue to play the other two, which cost considerably more than the Spirit but I don't think playability or sound, with all of the pedals available, can be that much better to justify the price of a car. What are you really buying for your $25k or whatever? How much better do these crazy expensive boutique basses REALLY sound/play than say the best one from your average music store set up properly? Would anyone else really hear it?
I can relate on the White Yammy. I bought the 505 and love it! I’m not crazy about the matte finish (mine’s also white) but it plays nicely, is solidly built and has a pretty wide array of tones. Maybe the best aspect is that I wouldn’t hesitate to gig with it, whereas I’d be petrified to take a $25k bass out of the house. Just wish Yamaha would’ve come up with some sexier colors.I have a list price Lakland 3TBS Hollow Body bass, list price $1999.99 I paid $1499 Sweetwater Price. I also have a Fender MIM Okoume Jazz Bass new about $800.00. I think I like my Fender a little better. I guess if you spent $25K it would give you a lot of Bragging rights. I sold the White Yamaha, wished I hadn't.View attachment 3348652
You won't play with me if you own a piece of Peavey gear. If the rest of the band goes along with you, I will leave, and I have. That poopie makes me nervous.
The difference is only if you have that kind of money to spend. It's called discretional income. Some just like to brag about how much they can spend. Or then there is the artistic side where beauty in the of the bla bla .This.
