So... why does everyone and their mother spell 'Squier' wrong?

(It's also totally karmically acceptable to jump on a grammar/spelling nazi post and criticise the grammar or spelling therein

There is no way that a thread with the topic of why a word is spelled wrong reached 10 pages. What are you people talking about here? Is this like the word of the day that results in a bucket of barf dumped on your head?

As a Business Owner, If I email you and ask "Where are the items I ordered from you 2 weeks ago?" and you answered
"Eye shipt ur pakig frum ofur sees. Yu shud git it bi the end uv da weak."
when you meant -
"I shipped your package from overseas. You should get it by the end of the week."
I would not place an order with you again.
Eventually, THAT will be the END of the MEANS by which you make a living.
So, YES, it is about the MEANS not just the END.
Wrong as it may be... If you sound/read uneducated, people will ignore/discount/not take you seriously when you may have something important to contribute.
And I am not talking about one's accent, either. That road is closed.

I think we are saying the same thing more or less. I've yet to encounter a company that used the word 'shipt' in an invoice.
We are talking about interpersonal communication and specifically forum posts, not sales invoices. Obviously if you are selling yourself, you want to brush your teeth, floss, tie your tie properly, scrub your nails and use the Queen's English because you are being judged, not your words.
True story: I met my current girlfriend because I thought her written english was so bad that she must be trying to scam me and I directed her to mail the information I requested to an @fbi.gov address as a joke. I even told my friends about it and how I was about to toy with another foreign scammer. When she replied that the information was sent and where was my response, and she answered my 'local' question correctly, I cringed because I realized she was legit. As it turns out she was a highly respected (and beautiful!) magazine publisher who was born in France. Never assume someone's intelligence is comparable to their grammar and spelling. I re-learn that lesson over and over.

May be the Customer Service Rep or Business Owner you talk to tomorrow about your $5000.00 piece of equipment you ordered 2 months ago that UPS says was delivered 2 weeks ago. But, not to you.

A lot of people have trouble when they encounter a new word that looks a lot like a word they've known for a long time. These people hear you say the name of the bass, and their brain pops out "squire", the way they've spelled it all their lives. To realize and adjust for that error requires effort, and a lot of these people don't care enough to bother.

That's a good explanation. I can see that being the reason for most people.
But not for the ones that OWN a Squier and still spell it wrong. LOL
It's like a Scandinavian buying a Ford vehicle and still spelling it "Fjord". Which is NOT even close to the same meaning but, he has spelled Fjord as Fjord all his life. LOL.
NOTE: fjord is more general in the Scandinavian languages than in English. In Scandinavia, fjord is used for a narrow inlet of the sea in Norway, Denmark and western Sweden.

How a word is spelled all boils down to "CONTEXT". How is it being used and it does make a difference. Some are more difficult to get right than others but, common words learned in elementary school shouldn't be used incorrectly as often as they are.

REALLY? A 3rd grade level can't be conveyed properly by someone who has or is about to "graduate" from high school?

On the other hand, I think it's IMPOSSIBLE to 'loose too much low end' on the unsuspecting masses!

I think its probably something similar to how some people mispronounce words through their entire life. Like pronouncing "especially" as "ECKspecially". Even though no one else says that either they dont notice or just cant do any better.
Now for the real question: which bass is best? Alder and rosewood will satisfy your acoustic tonal footprint goals. Very snappy yet warm with wide girthy mids and airy open lowhighs.

The human psyche needs one unitary scapegoat for all issues. It's okay if you don't remember; it's not your fault your parents let you play hookie that day that the unqualified, unionized psychology teacher forgot to teach it in class.
There is some validity to your statement, though, about lack of personal responsibility and the notion that everyone is to blame, at least in some part.
