So... why does everyone and their mother spell 'Squier' wrong?

Grammar has nothing to do with spelling. Grammar is the construction of a sentence, not the spelling of the words there in. ;)

True, but people are more than likely spelling it "squire" because it is a word in the dictionary that they've heard and read before seeing Fender's subsidiary company. It's abnormal, a proper noun, homo-phonetic, and the spelling change is so slight that it is no wonder confusion happens.

For example, my girlfriend's brother's name is Jon. I continue to accidentally spell it with an H because it is more commonly spelled that way and because I'm familiar with the H being there. Psychologically, familiarity trumps proper spellings.

squier ... u mean chris squier of yes or... more like a country gentleman squire... but squier is middle english i believe. according to the google boyz

Forgive for I have not read the whole tread.. It would seem that create your own vocabulary as long a the massive understand what you mean.. That's not necessarily a bad thing but a little here and a little there is why we are in the place we are today.. The frog in the pot knows not what is happening him..
