It's true though, that is why people tend to misspell it. It's not so much that people are stupid but that people are smart...

Grammar rules are really just guidelines, the only thing that matters is effectively communicating your message and the best writers seldom live within what is considered proper. But that doesn't mean a bunch of $%*& should be tolerated.

Which means when I see "OMG y r u riten lyke dat??" I want to reach through the internet and slap them. We all have standards, they just vary.

As I said earlier, yes, if I put the time and effort in I CAN figure out what it says. But why should I bother to put the time and effort into this? If you want to communicate, take the time to at least TRY to do so in a fashion that facilitates communication.

It's not that hard is it? I have more trouble with 'their' and 'they're'.

Most people communicate terribly in writing. It's tragic, but that's the way it is, for whatever reason. However, if you understand the message, how important is the spelling? (Not that I condone poor spelling; I think it has grown to ridiculous levels. Or maybe in the age of the Internet, everybody just can see how stupid everybody else is...and take comfort in it.) It's a huge problem only if others do not understand what you intend to say.

There are few problems with the assertions that the paragraph makes too...

A. "...and you can sitll raed it whoutit a pboerlm." Or "... and you can still read it without a problem." The author assumes that the time to decipher it and make sense of the gibberish is not a "pboerlm". It quite often is a problem.

B. They equate getting the message with clear communication. It isn't.
