so yeah today was strange........

ok so i joined a band earlyer in the year and as always we had member changes but i was happy enough with the drummer and my friend on guitar untill this guitar player who read our advert decided that even though we already had a guitar player and a great one at that. so this other guitar player came in and pretty much decided he was in the band and the good guitar player decided "im not having this" and left.

so after that we we also had to look for a new singer so my girlfriend at the time said "ill do it" we all told her your not what we need in a singer because she had no money and couldent sing. so we keep going on in this band where only 2 of the members were having fun (the singer and the guitar player) but we noticed one thing my now ex gf never sang a lyrics or even helped pay for practace. she more just showed up while me and the drummer talked about a band with the guitar player who left. so we have been focusing on that lately even though were still in the band with the ex and the not so good guitar player.

or not anymore. so this "singer" calls me up telling me that me and the drummer are no longer in the band because were focusing on the band that we had befor she started bringing in people without consulting us.

whose wrong. the fake singer or me and the drummer playing with the musician we want to ?

Mcsleazy, there's no "right or wrong" in these kind of situations. It is what it is.

I say keep playing with the original guitarist (your friend) and the drummer you click with.

Tell those other pukes good riddance.

In the first place...


I'd tell the new guitarist and the singer you wish them the best...in their new band, not yours. If they think they can stake a claim, tell them to F-off.


also, curiously... where do you practice? Is it at someones house or do you rent? and if the latter who is in the lease?

I wasn't very clear with the second part of my post, I wan't calling into question the rent money she owes you, I meant along the lines of who gets to continue using your pratice space with the band break-up. when I replaced the previous bassist in my current band, that was an issue which came up. He felt that he had played a key role in obtaining our practice space and we should leave and let him start a new band in the space. They(your former singer/girlfriend and the guitarist) may feel entitled to the space since they obviously feel entitled to ownership of the band.

just another thing to consider

hopefully it meens we can go back to lofi in glasgow rather than another place in maryhill where we used to practace

You won't get the rent she owes you. I would just say see you later and cut my losses(not that there is much more to lose in this situation). The only concern would be the practice site. If you or the drummer are on the lease than the ex and the guitarist must leave, and you must make that clear. Otherwise 2-3 months down the road you will find yourself owing for a practice site you haven't been using.

In all honesty it sounds like being "kicked out" is the best thing that could happen to you and the drummer. You don't enjoy playing with the guitarist and "singer" so call up the old guitarist and make the band you really want.
