Soldering Tools

Since there is a lot of interesting information about technique here, I would like to share another hint:
When soldering connectors, plug them into their mating partner (if you have one at hand) during the process. This will draw some heat and prevent the grommet/insulator from melting.
Most of the consumer type insulators, e. g. cable sleeves, are made from PVC, which melts easily. So make sure you don't move your assembly before it has cooled down a little.
To those who have not yet done it: it is so rewarding and fun to make your own cables. I would encourage everyone thinking about it to give it a try! A wire cutter, a sharp knife and some basic soldering tools will do it for a start. (... which leads us back to topic. 😁)
