Solid 1x12 or 2x10

I have a Minimark Bass combo amp. I'm not gigging or planning to. But i want a small cab to go along with the Minimark

I thought I wanted a 1x12 cab but they seem to be pretty expensive compared to 2x10.

I have all the punch and clarity I need with the Minimark
can a 2x10 set up be very bassy, or do I need the 1x12?

What cabs would pair well with the Minimark?

You want this ext cab to increase the low end? Generally, you add spkrs to increase volume. The MiniMark is a 2x6? You don't automatically gain low end with a larger diameter spkr. But such a small combo amp, I'm not sure this is going to work out like you want, but just be sure that 1) the amp has an ext spkr jack, and 2) that you pay attention to the impedance of the the combined spkrs, (internal plus ext), and don't go below the 4 ohm minimum.

...but what the exact specifications the cab it's powering has to be I'm don't know much about.

What ever works for you, so long as the impedance of the cab is 8Ω. Go to your favorite shop that has cabs you are interested in and try them with your Minimark. Keep in mind that the Speaker On/Off switch on the Minimark controls both the internal and external speakers at the same time, so you can't use the amp with only the extension cab without also using the internal speakers.

I haven't looked up your amp, but as a general rule of thumb with combo amps, if there's an external speaker jack you should be good with an 8 ohm extension cabinet and should avoid 4 ohm extension cab. But to be sure, look up the specs for your amp.

I'm not familiar with that GK extension speaker, but it looks identical to their MB150 Micro amps. Those amps really impress me with the sound that comes out of such a small, light package.

It's always taking a chance mixing two different sounding boxes, though. There are a few threads on this. The consensus seems to be that there are more ways to go wrong than there are to get it right. If there's an opportunity to try it out, maybe by borrowing it or renting it for a month, that might be a way to go.

If you like the tone of your amp, a safer (if more expensive) bet may be to get a matching extension cab.

Good luck.

just curious what you think the minimark is lacking? and what you would solve w/ an extension cab if volume isn't a concern? If you want more bass/body maybe an eq or pre amp w/ eq might do the trick.

fwiw I was always happy w/ the tone of my minimark. but when I added a sabddi it was another level - wouldn't dream of using it w/o one again . . .

The minimark sounds great on it's own, i'm really just wanting to add some extra warmth and depth. Hopefully can get the sound to another level as well:)

A 1x15 is something I would consider. I'm kind of confused why the 2x10's are cheaper than 1x12's.

I'm leaning toward this Hartke Hydrive
