Solid color or wood grain?

Grain. I'm not totally against solid colours but like to see some woody goodness. My current squeeze is trans red over flamed maple top and swamp ash.

Right now I have 7 basses; 4 are clears, 1 is a translucent 3TS and 2 are painted solid colors.
Over the years, I've owned a total of 23 basses. Out of them I have/had:
Clear - 11
Translucent - 5
Opaque paint - 7

I like basses with both kinds of finishes. I think some basses with visible wood grain look great, and some with solid color finishes look great as well.

I like a painted fender bass; But, I will say that those exotics would not look very good painted; you got to show off that crazy wood, LOL... i'm just a fender guy though...

Exotic wood, subtle grain, satin finish and a warm tone with great sustain make an irrestible combination. Makes me want to play "just one more tune..."

Sunburst basses are very common. I prefer custom colors!

Only just noticed WHo the OP is.. come ON, Mr B- your basses are SO nice. I need options! OK, for real- I don't prefer one over the other- I like a little bit of this, a little bit of that... of my main players, it's pretty much split- 2 solids, 2 naturals. I also like(to look at)all different kinds of women.

In my poinion, I think it really depends on the type of bass and color, but just going off of history and my bass preferances, I would say wood grain. I think it is just so beautiful, even on crappy wood with a little visable grain.
