Solid Gold FX Beta drive? Anyone playing one?

top jacks??

Jacks on top instead of sticking out the side. Allows more space for pedals instead of being wasted with cables sticking out :)

On my Pedaltrain board I will have nothing put top jacks on the bottom row, but nothing but side jacks on the top row. I don't like them sticking out the top over the edge but love it on the bottom row. I'm weird.

Ah, ok...
couldn't one just re box the Beta?

Ok, just received my Beta, looks like CanadaPost decided to surprise me with some quick success. It is definitely nice. Pretty sure it will bump the pork loin off my board.

Too bad it does not have top jacks, that thing would have been an even better package.

Have you cracked it open? Might could rehouse with top jacks. If it's a keeper I'll probably rehouse it to fit on my main black/red Nano (but I like the side jacks).

I miss my old Pork Loin, and I was thinking this Beta seemed like the good stuff from that pedal with more range.

Ok, this is the best I can do for now. I would have to undo the jacks to get a picture of the other side of the circuit board. Looks like the jacks are soldered to the board so rehousing with top jacks would require some soldering work.

Ok, had to switch gears and start using my headphones once the kids went to bed so I cannot really give a super great review. The Audio Technica ATH-M50s through The Enabler are great and everything, but it is still not an amp.

Anyway, it bumped the Pork Loin right off my board. It does have a nice warm vintage sound that can break up a bit. Definitely different from other ODs on my board. To me it sounds very natural through most of it's gain range. I really like it. I will have more to say about it tomorrow I think.

So far, it's a keeper.

I'd really like to hear it in a full band mix. Mine will be here on Monday, so I'll get to experience that. I've noticed most reviews are done with just bass and drums or just bass. I really liked the prymaxe demo cause at least they added some context to the drive sound...

Whilst still debating wether to get a beta or not,( or possibly an accountant instead...or both), an important (to me) question arose...can it do stuff others can't...is it unique enough to justify the purchase...?

You think it is?

Yeah, I had to leave on another business trip so I did not get to use mine much on the amp yet.

Hopefully I will on Thursday when i get back home.

On a lighter note, I don't know what is the genesis behind the SolidGoldFX name and I know Solid Gold has a lot of different meanings, especially in the music world. However, in Montreal, Solid Gold is a very well known big time mobbed up Stripper Bar.
