solo advice

My band wanted to do Got The Time from Anthrax and the let me put my own solo. I've never done it before and I seeking for advice to put in a solo that fits nicely.

Anything technique you use to do this?

Might not help but what I usually do is take all the chords from the song and try to incorporate them on the solo. Just building around I, III and V. And I'm not familiar with the song you are speaking of.

Practice your scales and modes. The better you understand music theory they better you'll be at playing over all. Figure out which scale or mode the song is based around and just base your solo off of that.

what I do when I solo is take the notes the song is in,bring them up up and octave and play them in a different way with slight variation.
