Double Bass Solo Revolution and AI Coda

Hey guys I just tracked down an AI Coda R SIII. Should be here in a couple weeks. Does anyone have any experience with Uptons solo revolution pickup through this amp? Tips? Problems? Tones? anything.

[ Edit - I see now you got a Series III. ] The Series II and III have an adjustable high pass filter. I find it helps the sound of my Rev Solo II. I have the 'R' symbol on the pickup facing the body of the bass, and it picks up a lot of low end that way on my instrument.

My Series I Contra did not have a HPF, and I usually turned down the bass EQ knob to try and get a sound that was less massive and tubby. But a HPF would have worked better I think.

If you have the 'R' symbol facing away from the bass, this may not be a problem. Seems to get much less body and more string that way on my bass.

Hello Lyle . I'm a bit late hopping in here .... I have a Rev II and a Coda III and like them both a lot. I agree with BOLOMAN about the R symbol facing in on the E-string side. I get a bigger, fuller, mellower bottom sound that way.

Based on my experience .... the fit and placement of the Rev II is a very big deal. Take your time .... make sure the bridge wing flats really are flat and parallel to each other .... slide it in ... try it out and listen closely .... adjust slot as necessary. It should slide in smoothly without too much force. I set up my 1/4" instrument-cable end on velcro on the tailpiece so I can move it to my other bass.

At first when I fitted it up, I was having to dial out a lot of treble to get rid of twanginess and string noise. After loosening up the fit in the bridge wing a tad more .... all that changed. I run all 3 eq knobs pretty flat with the tweeter off to get the sound I'm looking for. I do roll off a little bass and a little treble and boost the mids a little, depending on the room.

The high-pass filter on the Coda is really useful with the Rev II IMO. I usually run with HPF on and set at about 40 to 60 or else the real low-lows can get to rumbling a bit. In my limited experience .... if you are having to tweak the eq knobs very drastically one way or the other .... the fit of the Rev II may be in question.

Try blending in a mic into channel 2 sometime and find the right mix of Rev II and mic .... Sweet sounds for sure ! If you really want to rattle the rafters .... hook an M-line up to the Coda .

Ditto all that. I run the EQ flat and the HPF at 70 Hz. And I spent a LOT of time tinkering with placement and fit, making very slight adjustments, listening to the tone, again and again. When I was satisfied I traced the outline of the bridge wing's foot onto the pickup itself, so I can always put the p/u right back in the sweet spot.

Other than that, it's true some basses and some bassists I guess just do not like the RS II. Hopefully it will work to your liking on your bass.
