Soloing experiments...

Just stumbled across two new vids by Chris Tarry on Youtube, explaining how to experiment soloing in and out of the harmony and/or time. "Some of it may work, some of it may not", he says... Well... A LOT of it does work, IMHO!

Really interesting to see him working on that stuff... And what I really dig about Chris playing is that, although he's able to solo like that, he stays away from it most of the time and is a big advocate of simple concepts and very aware of his "responsabilities" as a sideman. The vid with Teddy Kumpel on his channel is a pretty good example of that. Pino-esque...

Hey PLarry,

Always appreciate the kind words, and glad you're digging the videos. Yes, always have to remember the "root cause" when it comes to playing the bass, especially if you want to improve as a sideman.

And as for the Pino comparison, well, that's just about the best compliment anyone has ever given me. Made my day!

Thanks for posting those links, plarry! I'm a member of Chris Tarry Lessons (awesome, btw.) and I had missed that!
