Some advice for my son

Wow, I had the same dilemma a few months back when i was lookin for a new bass.. I was going for the ibanez SR600 or the Spector Legend Classic 5.. But i went down to Samash, and tried them both out and I feel in love with the Spector. The Ibanez was great but didn't fit me well.. The neck was super thin and the string spacing was very small.. Even though the Ibanez sound pretty well, it wasnt the bass for me. The Spector's design fit we wonderfully. The sound is amazing and feels great. But everyone has the preferences though. So it's really down to how he likes his bass to felt. But as a official Spector fan.. I love that bass so much.

Great responses here, thanks. He's a big kid, a football player, and a trip to GC today convinced him that the SR neck was too thin for his ham-like hands; it's his money, his call, and he found an MIM Standard P that fits him like a glove. Now, I am going to try out the Spector!

I'm going with Spector Legend. I have a Spector Legend Classic 5 fretless. I initially had trouble with it as a beginner bassist, because I'd never heard a fretless and didn't understand why this decent Spector I got couldn't sound like a regular bass. Eventually I realized that the fretless sound is completely original and only for what it does. I like Ibanez's too but I'd go with Spector. Do an A/B like others have suggested. I bet he'll hear a difference. Which one he likes better is up to him. For me it's Spector all the way, (second to Warwick)

Fender P's are great, especially cause of it's iconic sound.
