Some bassic info...

Hi, TalkBass forums! My name is Todd, but most folks who know me call me Ozmoid, it has been my moniker longer than I've needed one for the internets. I have a performance background in music, most recently I've been playing ukulele in a "for fun" duo that looks like it is turning serious. I also play trombone, tuba, a smattering of piano and electric bass.

While wishing I had an acoustic bass to play in our little duo, I was offered one... a no-name plywood model from sometime prior to the 60's. The soundpost was missing and had been replaced with what looked like a piece of broomstick (at least, that's what was rolling around in the lower bout...), the tuning box had been busted and epoxied back together (badly), and the neck was flopping on the two finishing nails someone had driven through the block - glue joint had completely given up.

So I took it.

I managed to get the finishing nails out, and took this distressed instrument to a local luthier who is putting it all back together. I'm currently waiting on a new nut and bridge to arrive, and it will be almost finished. The tuning box is already repaired, and the neck re-attached.

I have played the double bass only once before... about 30 years ago for two weeks one summer. :hmm: So here I am, with an open mind and open ears, ready to ply my musical skills and try to attain some proficiency through the generous wisdom of the TalkBass membership. (Did I lay that on thick enough? ;) )

Looking forward to meeting you all!
