You might try adding a touch of reverb and a pinch of distortion to the drums. That can help make digital drums sound more listenable.

I like it, but I think it's a bit meandering. It doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere. You might try changing some dynamics ups a bit, remove a part here and there, and bring them in later, or perhaps make the chord changes a little more apparent. This is an interesting sounding piece, but it does feel like something that is supposed to be in between two other, more substantial, songs.

It's got a cool Aphex Twin/Radiohead vibe that I'm digging. I think with a bit of tweaking it could be a song, instead of a bunch of sounds strung together. Overall, good stuff.
Cool, thanks. I agree it does meander. I'm going to try your advice and run the drums through a plugin called the da tube. There is a small amount of reverb on them, but I think it might get lost with the lower quality mp3 I posted. I'm not sure whether I should change an existing part to make the changes more obvious, or add something that has a bit of continuity to each section.

Hey Joshua...

I thought it was cool. It seemed surreal and, somehow...
EVIL! (heh heh heh). It sort of reminded me of something I did a couple of years back... ("The Telephone") which was, well.... SPOOKY! All good.

Cool! thanks Mr.X!

any chance of hearing "the Telephone"?

Sure! HERE you go.

It's not that it sounds "similar" to your tune... just that it had the same "vibe". A talkbasser commented that "The Telephone" made him feel like going out and killing somebody (hope he was kidding)...Your tune had the same effect on me.
Your kidding too right? ;) I'm going to listen to it as soon as I get home.

RE: the telephone

The word that came to mind instantly was frenetic. It reminds me of Barton Fink for some reason.

Nce bass line, it ties the madness together, leaving with just bass and siren is perfect. The piano is cool too. The song doesn't make me want to kill anyone, but it does give me the same feeling I get when I'm late for something important. -If I did not know what the important thing was, that is.

Very cool, I like it!

Not to detract farther from the original thread topic, but i feel I should post this short explanation so that people don't think I actually sit around thinking up tunes like that. This was soundtrack for a short (3 min.) black & white film (my sons grade 9 project) briefly summarized as follows:

The setting is a old run-down apartment in a 5 storey bldg. -surrounded by other old buildings , narrow streets. The main character is tired after working all night, and is trying to get some sleep. The phone on the sidetable by the couch he's lying on rings. He picks it up, no one there, hangs up. This goes on a few times before he rips the chord right out of the wall. Just as he does this, the phone in the kitchen (a stones throw away) starts to ring. He picks it up, nobody there. Finally, he rips the phone off of the wall and tosses it out his 3rd storey apartment window. There happens to be a police car parked right below (cops investigating something else). The phone comes crashing through the police car windshield. Cops come up and arrest the man - haul him to a small jail cell. He curls up on the bunk, happy to be able to get some rest. An officer shows up with a telephone in hand and hands the phone over to the main character, telling him he's allowed one phone call. Cop walks away... phone starts to ring.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
