Some help.

So I have started recording for my band and it's great. We have a large soundboard, the drums are mic'ed, the guitars are mic'ed, but we keep having trouble with me. I've been told that you shouldn't mic a bass, so I've been trying to avoid this. But we can't seem to get the amp set up straight to the mixing board.

Your amp should have a direct out. You can mic a bass amp. Try several positionings with the mic. I've seen bass amps double mic'd with a kick drum mic and an SM57 recorded to two tracks. There's all kinds of variations. Experiment!
