First of all, I'm kinda new here, but I've done my share of lurking.
But now I wish to ask for help and advice on my pickups choice.
I own an ESP Edwards E-T-100TR and unfortunately is has very oddly sized pups. It has two 4.0 x 1.3 inches/10,2 x 3,3cm casings. Casing is filled with some kind of hard material so I cannot simply replace the pickup.
The only retrofitting pups I found were EMG-40HZs, but they are made for 5-bangers, does that make any difference? If I would install them, would the give out a "shabby" signal?
And does anybody know what kind of sound they give?
I also wondered which pickups builders could make custom sized ones. I know Villex and Basslines do, but what would these cost?
And are they able to ship to Europe?
Also, I am no expert on wiring, do passive basses have different wiring, excluding number of tone/volume controls? Does this mean, for example, that I can turn it into a P- or J-bass?
Lastly, sorry for this barrage of questions, I am looking for a MM Stingray-esque sound, which I would describe as "bright" and "crisp". If anyone knows any pickups that can emulate this sound, or come close, please help me out.
Thanks in advance for all your help and advice.
