BTW, any idea if the cops are gonna nab the perp? Pawn shops usually have to get your personal information (including drivers license number) when you pawn an item.

It would be great to hear that they've caught the Perp(s) that broke into the truck in the first place. Got me wondering if the crime has been tagged as grand theft, and what level of felony might apply. This could make a real diff. on the motivation of the police/prosecutor to follow-through.

Half the battle is the recovery of the bass... but now who do you file a civil suit against for the damage to the head?

Also, just a thought... if the pawn shop didn't take the info down for whomever sold them the bass... can you file criminal/civil charges against the shop and hold THEM responsible for all repairs to the amp (in a kinda "If you can't prove where you got it from, it must've been YOU who stole it" way)

Congrats man. I had a similar pawn shop story with my Musicman Sterling that was stolen a few years ago. I actually saw it on ebay about a year later from a pawnshop seller, and after a few weeks of dealing with the police and pawn shop, I got it back. It's a good feeling!

+1 . Don't count on the police to keep an eye on the pawn shops. I have both my basses stolen from my house in 2000. In CA there is a law that requires pawn shops to check with a police database for stolen goods. Despite that both my basses ended up going through a local pawn shop. Turns out there was a screw-up when the serial numbers were entered into the system. Three years later, I did get one bass back, but the other was sold before we found out it was there, and once they sell it, the pawn shop is no longer libel for the stolen property.

they couldn't go to the new owners of the "hot" bass and get it? I remember years ago, my mother in law (now ex) bought some TVs and VCRs from this one guy. Come to find out all was hot...but the guy who she bought it from didn't know, cause it was sold to him hot. The police came and took all the items to return to rightful owners. I don't think she got her money back..I really don't remember.
