Something - Beatles

Please help. I really dig this tune and want to play it, trying to convince my band to play a Beatles song would be so cool!

Notice that you must detune your E string to D if you are going to play this line on a 4-string bass (well, just because measure #28). Hope this helps.

Yes, nice job on transcription Alavaro. I had a question; did Paul use a Hofner or Rick on that cut? I guess its more likely that the Rick may have been tuned down to D? Maybe they just punched-in for that note- if its actually sounding in that octave- those notes are hard to detect sometimes and if memory serves, there's a place where either organ or possibly synth (by Abbey Road era) doubles the bass guitar- I think that may be one of the spots.

I can tell you that that low D is actually played by the bass guitar. Taking into account that it's the only out-of-range note in the whole piece, I'd dare to say that they punched-in the whole descending phrase at measure 28 after detuning the instrument (It's what I'd do if I don't feel comfortable playing my bass in drop-D tuning, at least).

I gotta say, Alvaro's The Man when it comes to transcriptions. His work is totally on the mark. 100 times better and more accurate than any TAB out there. And the fact that he's so willing to share his work with us is awesome.

The Hal Leonard version shows those descending notes (in bar 18 of Alvaro's transcription) up one octave so the bottom D goes right into the following C and never below low E. However, that bassplayer article indicates that Alvaro is correct.

That means Hal Leonard is wrong -- which sucks. I thought we could trust Hal Leonard sheet music. You can't believe anything from anybody.
