Something different then Dadarrios

I just put new strings on my two basses last month. Dadarrio nickel roundwound medium gauge. No silk wrappings on the ends. I'm disappointed with the tone. I hear a lot of cloudy noise over the notes on both basses and when I pay very close attention to each note individually, I can hear overtones, like harmonics, over the notes. Its killing my tone.

I think I'm gonna try some Fender STrings. I remember liking them before I switched over to the Dadarrio strings. I really liked the colored ball ends. Black Red Green and Brass.

Has anyone else experienced this phenom?

I used to use D'Addarios, but after trying DR's I was much happier.

I use the Sunbeams (Nickel strings), but the Low Riders and Hi-Beams also were an improvement (IMHO) over the D'Addarios.

Agreed ^. DR's or nothing for me. I use the Black Beauties and Hi Beams.

All rounds do this when they're new. Some are a little worse than others, but generally you have lots of chorusey, warbling noise with brand new rounds regardless of the brand.

Just keep playing them until they die down, usually a couple weeks. Once they're dead they'll sound great until you need to change them (years usually).

I really like Daddarios and have never had a problem with the tone I can get with them. I like DRs as well but in order for me to get a nickel set I have to resort to mail order which can sometimes be a pain. Currently Im using nickel plated Dunlops and I am really enjoying the very mid focused, almost subdued slap tone Im getting with them, as well as a very rounded and full fingerstyle tone. Theyre cheap too so its a win win.

I think I'm done with Dadarrio strings as well. I have put 2 sets on my 5er and they seem dull and lifeless. The one thing I do like about them is the "new string" sound seems to die down quickly and they settle to "normal" very fast.

Unfortunately I have a brand new set of Dadarrio waiting to be used. I think it will end up collecting dust though.
