something odd with my big muff

ok, so recently i got hold of a black russian big muff, from around 2000/2001, - the older design
(like the one here with the 'side-rails'
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] )

It sounds really bassy, like REALLY bassy with the tone down, as in i've had a green sovtek muff and two other black russians and 2 good big muff clones, and this is the bassiest. but thats not a problem.
The problem is that if you turn the sustain (distortion) control down, it kills the volume to the point that if sustain is at minimum, there is nothing coming through the pedal.

This isnt normal.

Dont get me wrong the pedal does sound good and i never need to have minimum sustain (if i did i wouldnt have bothered with a muff, right?), but now its surplus to requirements and id like to sell it, but I dont really know if anyones gonna go for it as its faulty. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where i could send it to be looked at in the UK? I looked at the board and it seems to be fine, but I dont know squat about electrics, and I know EHX has had some rather dubious quality control issues in the past, maybe this one just slipped under the radar.

Has anyone had this problem before? I originally bought if for my guitarist as his black russian will die soon, but he's just got a DD7 and probably wont b able to afford anything for a while and was I tempted to keep it, but now my Green Stache is here, i prefer the true bypass and the smaller footprint.

I only discovered the issue recently when i was trying to compare the muff to the Stache. If it can be fixed, id like to get it done, but i dont really know whats causing the problem.

rcubed: nope, ebay job. used.
Deluge of Sound: oh cool so im not the only one, you ever thought of it as a problem?

coulda renamed the title to 'My Big Muff has great big monster Balls'
I wondered whether someone had tried to mod it as ive not heard that much bass come out of a muff, might give it a whirl with the band to see how far i can creep the tone control up and still keep the bass.
