He didn't say what speakers he has, so I assume start with getting rid of the silverfish. Then...The silverfish or the speakers?

Yep, diatomaceous earth puts a hurtin' on them.I would definitely get rid of them. They eat paper and glues and are pretty destructive overall if left unchecked. I've had some success with diatomaceous earth.
