Sometimes You Run Across The Darndest Things...

I haven't been in a gigging band in 25+ years, I quit playing live a very long time ago. This past weekend, a friend of a friend ran across this poster of our former band hanging in one of those vinyl record store poster displays...

Yes, that's me in the upper left corner acting like I know what I'm doing... 🤣😂🤣

It was a tiny little record store here in the city where I live, that you'd probably walk by without even noticing.
I told the old man who owns the store that I'd take it and he says "I've had that hanging here for a very long time. Can I ask why you want it?
I told him "Well, that's me there..."
He says "Oh, that's cool. I'm glad it made it all these years and found it's way back to you then!" 😎
Life is funny. You never know where it's gonna lead, or what you'll run across in some random store just 20 minutes from your house. I paid him what he was asking for it and didn't even bother haggling the price. There's not a lot of memorabilia of my gigging days because most of it took place before the internet even existed, back in a time when there were no cell phones, digital cameras didn't even exist, before even CDs were a thing. I'll get this properly framed and hang it in my room next to all my basses.😎

This is one of the coolest stories I've ever read on TB. Congrats on the lucky find!

My cousin came and caught one of our shows in Chicago in 1975. He had taken a picture of me standing on an amp. I was a hippie in a tie dye shirt, bell bottoms and tennis shoes. He mailed it to me a year ago. I was flabbergasted and, I even teared up. I had it made into a poster. It now proudly hangs in my studio. I have a ton of band pictures from the olden days.

You know the rules: Pics or it didn’t happen.

Dude - you gave up that purple Warlock?! Nooooooo!!!
I know right? There's a couple things I still kick myself for. One is selling off my very first bass, an Aria Pro II RSB and another is selling my two Warlocks, that one and the matching green one. I did, however keep the Ibanez Destroyer that was my main bass through all of my gigging years. Something about hindsight and youth and all that. 😋

I’ve done some of my own kicking. :) My first bass was a Cort Model X, double cut with racing stripes, and I have a similar photo my old guitarist posted to social media some years ago. I even had my senior pictures made with it!

Somewhere along the line it left my possession… but I managed to find another and bought it for the nostalgia.

It was a fairly crappy bass. :D And I remembered why I sold it!

I wish I had a few things to commemorate my playing career (which isn’t over yet!).

I do have a drummer friend that found a ticket to a Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show concert that had my band’s name on the ticket as the opening act.

Dr. Hook band was kinda over the hill and we were way under the hill….
