This is my first post, so please don't be TOO harsh...

I've been playing the bass for about 7 years now, and I have used the same axe for said years. Since I began playing, I have kept my eye on the Fender Jaguar, but recently found out that it is a discontinued model, not available in any local GCs or music stores. I have been looking around online, and found a brand new Fender Jaguar that, after many complications, ended up being a falsified ad. I have kept up my search, but I am starting to consider moving in a different direction.

I was wondering if it is worth buying a used Jag (like on eBay or Craig's List) or should I just try to find something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

you can get a Jaguar Bass through Warmoth. it's not on their site, just yet, but if you call and ask for Eric Wylie he will be able to get it built for you. do you know about Warmoth, btw?

A used bass in excellent condition is ALWAYS the way to go in my opinion. Watch the TB classifieds. Also, join as a supporting member and post in the Wanted section. You will eventually get your Jaguar.

There are LOTS of Jags on ebay right now, going for anywhere from 200 to a thousand bucks. Should be pretty easy.

I'll be able to tell you in a few days. My old man bought a used one a few months ago to thump on while his Martin was in the shop, but he's shipping it to me this weekend since I gig regularly and he just plays for fun (his logic not mine, not that I'd argue at all), and he's had the Martin back for a few weeks now. I can tell you this, my dad raves about the action. I'm honestly not sure how much of his word to take on the sound, since he plays through a little 30 watt Crate practice amp, but he says it sounds great too. Although, he's more of a set it and forget it kind of guy. I'm looking forward to finding all the sweet spots with all the different ways to tweak the tone on that bass. Again, I'll give a full update in a few days.

Do not be afraid of the term "used" grasshopper. Play it, and see that it is either good, or garbage. If it's garbage, move on to the next one. If it is good, and for a reasonable price, take it, for it is destined to be yours. Keep the faith, my son, some day your Jag will come.

I bought a "used" fender jaguar and its sounds good, feels right, looks cool.. and now its my main bass.

I have to agree sometimes its better to buy used you can save a lot of money..

Go with "used" whenever possible. I learned sometime ago that if you buy a used instrument, it will be worth close to what You paid for it if you decide to sell it. Whereas if You buy new, it is worth about half of what you paid for it once you walk out the door with it.

I say buy a used one. I own one (wouldn't sell it to ya, cuz it's highly modified), and love it. Great neck.

Played one of these unplugged for a bit, seemed pretty nice for $300 new. It's not a Fender, but you can get them new and the whole VIntage Modified line has been pretty good.
