I personally like drop D I use it on an electric and upright bass all the time. I totally go for the easier route because its really awkward on stage to spend longer tuning while everyone else is ready to go, staring at you and the venue has lots of time contraints hahaha. If you like it for the easier way to tune and easy power chords (which I totally agree with) then definetly do it. I think in terms of tuning and how varied music is there is no wrong or right way to tune an instrument....unless its out of tune or could break a string haha. If you like one over the other thats great! I always say that it's about what you and your band want, not what other people want or think is right.
I hope this helps!
