Songs that make you cry

I once saw this video of Lionel Hampton recording at 91 years old. He actually had to have a guy lift him up so he could reach certain keys. It was pretty sad to watch. He`s one of my favorite musicians...

and as for song only, Epitaph by King Crimson

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd.

Time to Say Goodbye - Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman

+1 for listening to Andrea. That song is AMAZING.
Pink Floyd as well. Just wow.

I don't really shed tears for music, but the first ones that I imagine I would cry for are:

Eric Johnson- Cliffs of Dover (Live in Austin)
Steve Vai- For the Love of God
Rush- Resist (R30 Live version)
Pink Floyd- The Great Gig in the Sky
Pink Floyd- Us and Them
Simon & Garfunkel- America
Simon & Garfunkel- The Boxer
Led Zeppelin- Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
The Who- Baba O' Riely
The Who- Love Reign O'er Me

Just some thoughts.

After the Gold Rush and Greensleeves (when performed solo on piano) always seem to get me. I don't cry, but I get emotional feeling.

You Are My Sunshine is probably my number one. I had an exgirlfriend sing that to me when I was in a hospital bed recovering from a car accident among other things.

The biggest one is Barber's Adagio for Strings. I happened to listen to that one on a day when I was feeling really guilty about something - and rightfully so - and it combined with my already depressed mood to make me feel like going somewhere and curling up sobbing in the fetal position.

As far as songs with lyrics go, the only things I can think of are some of the songs from Les Miserables, especially "On My Own" and "A Little Fall of Rain" as mentioned before. It didn't happen on my first exposure which was just a recording, but I happened to see some videos of those performed and that set some tears rolling. I can't even imagine what it would be like live, I'd probably cry like a baby. Buckley's "Hallelujah" doesn't quite move me to tears, but it does make the spine tingle a bit.

There are several songs that can bring a tear to my eye, but the 2 that do it everytime are Led Zeppelin's "Since Ive Been Loving you" and Led Zeppelin's "Tea For One". If you havent heard "Tea For One"...its a bit more obscure, the bass lines and R. PLants vocals are heart wrenching. Yeah sure, J. Page is there with some good guitar work, but its the bass and vocals/lyrics that make me a blubbering fool wanting to suck my thumb in a corner. Check it out, see what I mean.
