Songs that make you cry

Oh great, just woke up and I'm already crying.
Tears in Heaven - Eric Claptop
My father had alzheimers really bad, didn't know anybody, couldn't talk to us.
He had an accident in the care unit that he was staying in. Got caught up in the divider curtain and hung by his neck. We had tears in heaven played at his funeral by a solo guitarist.

"Death of a Friend", by Kevin Gilbert. The title and subject makes it bad enough, but then I think about the wasted uber-talent of KG, who died so young at 29. Just F****ing sad.

In the early 90's, David Baerwald put out a solo album called "Triage". I got it at a time when a dear friend, who was gay, was bashed to death. Even after 14 years, the last three songs on the album will bring me to tears.

"The Theme from Powder" | Jerry Goldsmith. Not a word in it and it's still the most haunting, emotional piece of music I know.

"On a Day of Many Angels" | Michael Manring. Same thang.

"My Immortal" | Evanescence. But here's the thing: Find the KARAOKE version, not the real CD version. I think the song is SO much sadder and more emotional WITHOUT the lead vocal. The music was enough.

Lights Will Guide You Home" | ColdPlay. Yeah I know. Shut up, it's great.

"I Don't Love You Anymore" | London Choirboys. Hit close to home.

"Wait for an Answer" | Heart. You just wanna wrap your arms around Ms. Wilson (she was thinner then) and tell her it'll be okay.

That's it. Man Card resigned.

free swinging soul - live - by michael hedges ( from the cd torched ). actually a lot of songs by hedges when i'm in one of those moods, but especially free swinging soul. torched was the cd of works in progress that he was working on when he tragically died in a 1997 car accident at the age of 43 and i think the reason i gets to me is it symbolizes the injustice of it all and the loss of an enormous talent. i never met him, but a friend did and to all accounts he was a great and humble person and i think his guitar playing is inspiring. the song is about his kids and the future and the kinda stuff that we all think about and i think it is just a beautiful song.

Soon - Yes

Absolutely beautiful and emotional. Also by Yes the song To Be Over really affects me and is one of my favorite all time songs.

This is very random but the last time I remember a song really bringing me to tears, and this is definately related to life circumstances, it was Black Girl Pain by Talib Kweli. It is a really touching song about family, with the wierdest backing (and backwards) tracks of a little girl singing which would probably keep many people from feeling the deep emotion in it.

I give +1 to Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley too. That is hauntingly powerful.

Something I Can Never Have - Nine Inch nails
Shadow on the sun - Audioslave
A father's way - Seal
The Day I Tried to Live - Soundgarden
Wings for Mary (parts 1&2) - Tool

I'm a sucker for empathising with emotion in songs and relating them to situations of my own. Then again I cry at the odd film, so I have a "man-card" the size of a postage stamp ;)

Garden - Pearl Jam...christ, I want Eddie Vedder's voice when he could still get that sound.
